Augusta, GA - Shirley Ann Johnese Hunt, beloved wife of Gaylord R. Hunt for 61 years, entered into rest on September 27, 2016.

Shirley was born in Chick, Tennessee on March 17, 1936. After graduating high school she joined the US Army where she served in the Pentagon as secretary to four-star generals Ridgeway and Taylor. In 1955 she met and married Gaylord R. Hunt.

Shirley believed in living a life of service to others was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Path Way Sunday School Class. Shirley became a member of the Order of Eastern Star in 1963 at the Denoli Chapter 16 in Anchorage, Alaska, and continued her service through the Alice Warren Chapter 483 where she was appointed as the 1983-84 Grand Chaplain for the State of Georgia.

Her husband, Gaylord Hunt, four daughters: Sherry Riner & Joe, Debbie Dalton & Randy, Margie Hamilton & Rick and Robin Holt & Doug, six grandchildren: Jordan Riner, Yorke Dalton, Hunter Dalton, Tracy Hamilton, Courtney Hopkins and Maggie Holt and three great grandchildren: Hagen Riner, Anna Blair Hopkins and Ava Lyn Hopkins .

A funeral service will be Friday, September 30, 2016, 2:00 P.M. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Dr. Greg Porterfield officiating. A private graveside will be held at Westover Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wesley’s Faith Care Clinic or Alice Warren Chapter 483 OES Charity Fund.

The family will receive friends from Friday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. until the time of service at the church.
