Shirley Joe
Augusta, GA – Shirley Hogan Tipton Joe, R.N., age 74, was received into eternal reward on Monday, August 3rd. She was the daughter of James T. Hogan and Evelyn Still of Greenwood, and sister to Ray Hogan.
Shirley was an extraordinary example of compassion, achievement, and spirituality. The first to graduate college in her family, with her R.N. (Furman, Class of 1960), Shirley achieved letters as C.C.D.N., Psych Nurse, B.S., (SIU) and Masters, Ph.D. in Theology and Divinity (Whole Life Ministries) in Augusta, GA. Additionally, Shirley volunteered as a Chaplain (MCG), and was Ordained as a Minister. Her career of compassion included delivering babies, nursing wounds, and attending to the mentally infirm. In Oncology and later as a Chaplain, she once again demonstrated her spiritual compassion for others.
She is survived by her devoted husband: Howard Joe; children: William R. (Chuck) Adkins of Augusta, J. Trevor Adkins (Stacie) of Evans, Leigh Anne Adkins (Richard) of Washington State, and Jason D. Adkins (Lan) of China; stepchildren: Howard L. Joe, Pam Murray, and Adrienne Hart; 8 grandchildren and a great grandson.
The funeral service will be Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
