Shirley Anne Reeves left her earthly home to be embraced by the loving arms of her Savior on Sunday, February 23, 2025. She was 88.
Shirley was born on June 14, 1936, to Nobie Lee Seymour Standridge and Parks Melton “P.M.” Standridge in Gainesville, Georgia. She attended Riverbend High School, where she graduated as Salutatorian in 1955.
She married Jack Reeves in 1957. Together, they raised three children—Jack Jr. “Butch,” Kelly, and Deidre—in Dawsonville, Georgia, surrounded by a loving, lively community of family and friends.
A skilled cook and seamstress, Shirley never met a recipe she couldn’t improvise or a hem she couldn’t mend. She loved to cook for her family and passed that love on to her children and grandchildren.
She was always the life of the party, and regularly hosted dinner parties, happy hours, and Christmas parties with her friends and family. She was happiest surrounded by her people.
In her later years, she moved to Augusta, Georgia, where she was crowned Miss St. John Tower in 2016. Her reign was marked by a period of fun and laughs in her “realm.” She was active in her Sunday School class and evening bible studies at Trinity on the Hill and treasured the relationships that grew there.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nobie Lee and P.M. Standridge; her brother, Jimmy Standridge; and her former husband, Jack Coleman Reeves.
She is survived by her sister, Sarah “Pete” Skinner (Harry), of Gainesville; brother, Tommy Standridge (Judy), of LaGrange; son, Jack “Butch” Reeves, Jr., of Gainesville; daughters, Kelly Strickland, of Gainesville, and Deidre Reeves, of North Augusta, South Carolina; grandchildren, Andrew Strickland (Katie), Max Strickland, Brittni Bright, and Sydney Hagood (Neal); great-grandchildren, Gunnar Swenson, Magnolia Paschal, Ada Grace Hagood, Stella Hagood, and Cora Strickland, who all knew her as their Nana.
The family will host a drop-in gathering at Trinity on the Hill (1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904) on Saturday, March 8th at 10:30am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am.
