Shirley Ann Thompson

Augusta, GA – Shirley Ann Thompson, 79, the loving and faithful wife to Robert E. Thompson (Bobby) entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus, while surrounded by family on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Shirley was born in Byron, GA on December 17, 1945, to the late Wilma and Willie Montgomery.

Shirley was a devoted member of Morningside Baptist Church for over 65 years, where she sang in the choir and served on several committees. She was a graduate from the Academy of Richmond County, class of 1964. A few more of her interests included: watching Jeopardy!, shopping, playing card games with her ladies group “The Chick-a-dees”, and traveling with her family whom she loved deeply. Shirley also worked in childcare for many years out of her home, referred to by her as “Shirley’s School of Hard Knocks”.

In addition to her husband, family members include her sons: Robert “Robby” Thompson, Jr. (Sherry), Ricky Thompson (Wanda); Grandchildren: Tanner Thompson (Katie), Ret Thompson (Glorianne), Courtney Thompson, Haley Buck (Cody), Will Thompson, Summer Thompson and Sadie Thompson: a brother Doyle Montgomery (Linda); and a sister: Marie Covington.

She was preceded in death by parents Wilma and Willie Montgomery and two brothers, Eugene Montgomery and Wayne Montgomery.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with Rev. Kyle Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Tanner Thompson, Ret Thompson, Will Thompson, Cody Buck, Ken Covington, and Roy Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 1825 Kissingbower Road, Augusta, GA 30904.
