Sofie Gropp
09/19/1916 - 11/09/2009
Evans, Ga. – Entered into rest Monday, November 9, 2009, at her residence, Mrs. Sofie Gropp, 93, wife of the late Erwin Gropp.
Mrs. Gropp was born in Munich, Germany but had resided in Columbia County since 1951, thanks to General Robert E. Wood, chairman of the board of the Sears and Roebuck Company who sponsored immigrants to farm the land. With hard work and determination this land transformed into an especially beautiful home place dear to her heart. She retired from MCG where she worked as Chief Histology Technician in the Department of Pathology. Mrs. Gropp loved gardening and especially growing roses. Her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her life.
Family members include her sons: Peter Kohler and late wife Alice of Evans, Hans Kohler and wife Carole of Grays, SC, Robert “Billy” Gropp and wife Jeanne of Augusta; daughter: Sabina Presley of Evans; seven grandchildren: Angel Banford, Stephanie Fogarty, Rhonda McAulay, Jon and Adam Kohler, Gary and Raven Gropp; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gropp was predeceased by her husband Erwin E. Gropp.
The family would like to thank Mrs. Sofie’s care takers through the years, especially Dr. Paul Fischer and Donna Sexton.
