Martinez, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, August 19, 2010, Mrs. Sophia Wells Johnson, 90, wife of the late Alfred L. “Bud” Johnson, Jr., US Army Ret.
Mrs. Johnson grew up in Biloxi, MS. She worked in retail sales for years as a make-up consultant and wedding consultant. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Assembly of God where she was past president of the women’s ministry and greeter during services. Mrs. Johnson was a self-taught artist. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Family members include her children: daughter Deanna F. Gibbs (Dave) of Grovetown, son Michael W. Johnson of Martinez, daughter Marcia Johnson Dixon of Haw River, NC; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her daughter Myrna J. Davis, son-in-law Richard A. Dixon, and grandson Christopher Reed McConnell.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Charles Broome officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ivey Mock, Eric McConnell, John Karnes, Collin McConnell, Devin McConnell, and Nicolas Pollard. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Arthur Dixon, Jr., David Gibbs, Clark Mock, and Bob Gutman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1105 Furys Lane, Suite D, Augusta, GA 30907.
