Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, Mrs. Sue Reed Metcalf, 88, wife of the late Buddy Metcalf.

Sue was born December 3, 1932 in Asheville, North Carolina to Arthur and Rheba Reed, who both preceded her in death.

Sue and her first husband, the late Dr. William P. McNair, raised their three sons, William P. Jr. (“Bobo”), James Arthur (“Jimmy”) and John Michael (“Mike”) in Soperton, GA.

Sue was a 1952 graduate of Medical College of Georgia Nursing School where she earned her RN; she later obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Georgia Southern University, changing her career from nursing to teacher, and later to school counselor, in which capacity she served the Augusta community until her retirement.

Sue was a Master Gardener and member of the Pine Needles Garden Club. Sue and Buddy were members of the First Baptist Church, Augusta and also actively involved in the Augusta Shrine Club for a number of years.

Sue was a true southern lady and enjoyed decorating her home, cooking, baking and sewing for her family and friends in addition to tending to her plants and garden.

Family members include her son and daughter-in-law William P. McNair, Jr. (Kathy), of Waco, TX and grandchildren: William P. McNair III, Briana McNair, John McNair, Donna Sue McNair and Danny McNair. She was preceded in death by her sons, Jimmy and Mike.

In accordance with Sue’s wishes, there will be a private service for the interment of her remains in the First Baptist Church Memory Garden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Augusta, GA or the charity of choice.
