Mr. Sullie Starnes, Jr. 92, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Elizabeth Starnes.
He is survived by his daughters, Cathy (Bob) Wolbert, Carol Starnes and Melinda Starnes; granddaughter Natalie (Brian) Hall; grandson, Christopher (Courtney) Wolbert; great grandchildren, Chloe Wolbert, Cam Wolbert, Allie Hall, Avery Hall; siblings Pat (Bill) Wells, Betty (Jerry) Brells, Judy (Doug) Fable and Johnny (Betty Jane) Starnes; a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Starnes was a lifelong member of The Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and children’s Sunday School teacher and Crossbridge Baptist Church where he and others helped put a vision into motion. Always mission minded and caring for others in their time of need, led he and his wife to volunteer for Red Cross Disaster assistance, providing support to several missionaries, form The Alpha Ministry Fund and a long association with the Billy Graham Ministry. Born in Wagner, SC. He served in the Korean War. He moved to Augusta in 1952 where he began his career of selling life insurance and continued to serve his clients for 67 years. He loved to talk to people and never met a stranger. Even in retirement, Sullie found joy in serving the needs of others through providing advice, encouragement, and friendship. He will be missed by his family and friends but remembered for a life well lived and shared.
A praise service will be held Tuesday October 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors with Pastor Corry Craine officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Christopher Wolbert, Brian Hall, John Wolbert, Rusty Wooten and Jeff Wells.
