Mr. Theodore von Sprecken Jr.

Moss Point, MS – Mr. Theodore von Sprecken passed away on February 24, 2012, his 92nd birthday, at his home in Moss Point, MS. Born in North Carolina in 1920, he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He then proudly spent two years in the U.S. Army during World War II and achieved the rank of Captain. After his military duty, he started work with the Southern Railroad Company. One of his frequent work location transfers took him to Mobile, Alabama. He liked the northern Gulf coast and later accepted a job with the Mississippi Export Railroad in Moss Point, where he worked his way up to the position of Vice President/General Manager. He was involved in politics and was a member of Pascagoula Rotary Club, being a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a 60 year member of the American Legion and an active member of the Pascagoula First United Methodist Church. He was a member and past commander of the Singing River District of the U. S. Power Squadron, a safe-boating organization. He was a member of many community and other organizations, including Daedalians. Fishing and boating were his favorite ways to relax. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and his son, Theodore von Sprecken III. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca of Nashville, Tennessee. Ted will be greatly missed by Rebecca and his many friends and relatives.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Rebecca requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
