Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Doctors Hospital, Thomas A. “Tom” Mason, Sr., 76, husband of Delores Y. Mason.
Mr. Mason was a native of Trenton, NJ and resided in Augusta for the past 43 years. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving 22 years having served in Korea and Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Mason retired after 31 years with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department. He served as a firearms instructor with the department. Mr. Mason was a lifetime member of NRA, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a factory certified Gun Smith. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Family members in addition to his wife include his daughter: Liz Mason of Augusta; two sons: Thomas A. Mason, Jr. and wife Sally of Morehead City, NC, Tony Mason of Augusta; two grandchildren: Thomas A. Mason III, Joshua J. Mason; sister: Jane Mason; and brothers: George Mason and Charlie Mason of Trenton, NJ.
Funeral services will be held with full Military Honors Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Marion Jay officiating. There will be a private family interment at a later date.
