Augusta, GA - Thomas George Ashmore went to be with his Lord Sunday, March 10, 2024. Born November 3, 1928, he was the son of the late John Richard Ashmore and Mattie LeRoy Ashmore.
Known by T.G. to his family and George to his friends, he was born and raised in the Double Branches community in Lincoln County. After serving in the United States Army, he chose to make the Augusta, Georgia area his home.
He was married to the late Miriam Blanchard Ashmore for over 65 years. He is survived by his daughter, Janice, and his son Steve (Stacy) and three grandchildren, Erin Burch, Matthew Ashmore, and Spenser Burch. T.G. is also survived by his sisters Polly Reese, Margaret White, and Matilda Finley. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Laura Bussey, J. R. Ashmore (Junior), Nathaniel Ashmore and Sadie Williams.
A devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and brother, T.G. lived to help others. He was a jack-of-all-trades, and he would spend his nights and Saturdays helping others renovate, remodel, and maintain their homes. He loved to repair appliances and build furniture in his backyard shop.
T. G. was also a devoted Christian who made Crawford Avenue Baptist Church his church home for the past sixty years. He served as a deacon and on numerous committees. He loved the Lord and loved to discuss the Bible with everyone. After his retirement, he spent much of his spare time helping to maintain the CABC buildings.
George, or Tom as some of his coworkers called him, was a member of the International Brethren of Electrical Workers and worked in the electrical trade for over 40 years. He spent the last twenty-five years as a “trouble-shooter.” He retired from Alrich Electric Contracting Company in April, 1994.
