Thomas M. Taber

Thomas M. Taber, 75, of Augusta, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 31, 1946 and served his country as a U.S. Army soldier in Vietnam 1967-1969. Steadfastly devoted to his country and his family, he was the loving husband of Carol Konecek Taber for 53 years.

Tom was a career soldier who volunteered for enlistment during the Vietnam War and retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving in many assignments at numerous locations within the United States and abroad. Tom was the holder of an MBA from the University of Arkansas, and had received multiple Army awards, including two awards of the Bronze Star from his Vietnam service.

The Army brought Tom, Carol, and their daughters Theresa and Catherine to Augusta in 1982. After retiring from the Army in 1986, Tom and Carol decided to make Augusta their long term home where they have remained until Tom’s passing.

Born in St. Louis, MO and raised in Edwardsville, IL, Tom was second oldest of thirteen children born to Clinton and Rosemary (Murphy) Taber. Tom was predeceased by his parents and brothers Clint, Pete, Richard, and Robert as well as sisters Linda, and Pat. He is survived by wife Carol and daughters Theresa (Johann) Ehntholt of Augusta and Catherine Taber who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Other survivors are brothers Steve, Michael, and David as well as sisters Kathleen (Richard) Humiston, Mary (Pete) Scovic, and Susan Starr. Also surviving Tom are 2 grandchildren, Lucy and Olivia Ehntholt, both of Augusta.

Tom tried to live each day with a positive spirit and gratitude for all of life’s blessings he had enjoyed. He was a loyal friend to many, and his character, integrity, and good humor will be missed by all. Tom deeply loved his wife, daughters, and granddaughters who were the highlights of his life.

There will be a visitation at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd, Augusta, GA from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday February 2, 2022.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at The Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 720 Telfair St, Augusta, GA.
