Thomas T. Tarpley
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, October 11, 2012, Mr. Thomas Thames Tarpley, also known as Coach Tarpley, 81, husband of Annette Tarpley.
Coach Tarpley was born and raised in Greensboro, GA, and was the fourth of five children born to Charles and Mina Tarpley. He served in the US Army from 1955 until 1957. Coach Tarpley attended Berry College and received his Masters Degree in Education from Georgia Southern University in 1975. He was a teacher and coached football, baseball and basketball at Warrenton, Murphey, Tubman, Sego, Tutt and Morgan Road Middle School. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and Warren Baptist Church. Coach Tarpley was a long time fan of the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Augusta Green Jackets.
Family members in addition to his wife include sons: Barry Tarpley, MD (Sheryl) and Steve Tarpley; granddaughter: Claire Tarpley; grandson: John Aaron Tarpley; brother: Wallace Mel Tarpley of Birmingham, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 106 SRP Drive Suite A, Evans, GA 30809.
