Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, September 5, 2012, Mr. Thomas Waymon “Tom” Hitt, 90, husband of Mrs. Ruth J. Hitt.

Tom was born in Edgefield County, SC and attended Edgefield County Schools. He was a graduate of The Academy of Richmond County. He served as a navigator in the 8th Army Air Corp, 351st Bomber Group in WWII. Tom was a retired real estate broker, a member of the Shade Tree Model A’s and a founding member of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 172. Tom was an avid car enthusiast who spent many hours restoring antique cars. He was of the Baptist faith.

Family members in addition to his wife include sons: Thomas W. “Wayne” Hitt, Jr. and wife Linda of Grovetown, the late David William Hitt and his surviving wife Susan of Dearing, Bruce Alan Hitt and wife Cathie of Hephzibah; daughter: Beverly A. Freeman of Martinez; grandchildren: Tommy Hitt, Kristin Ryan and husband Matthew, Amy Hitt, Alan Hitt, Patrick Hitt, D.J. Hitt; and 4 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Pittman officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandson-in-law.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904 or Silver Run Baptist Church, 5348 Hwy 221 SE, Harlem, GA 30814.
