Tommy Mercer

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, March 28, 2012, Mr. Thomas Watson Mercer, Jr., 70, husband of Mrs. Brenda Mercer. He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Watson Mercer Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Mercer.

Mr. Mercer was a born in Lakeworth, FL. He was a 1959 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. As a youngster he worked for the Augusta Chronicle and Herald until he began a career with Proctor and Gamble that lasted 32 years. He was a longtime athletics official for the Richmond and Columbia County Recreation Departments, Georgia High School Association as well as the college level. He was a member of North Augusta Country Club. He served on the Columbia County commission for two terms and continued community service on various boards. He was a member of the Methodist faith.

Family members in addition to his wife include daughters: Wenona Carter, Kerri Brooks (Charlie) and Gin Sellers; sons: Todd Mercer, Trent Mercer (Kathy), Kevin Mercer (Amanda) and Bo Sibilsky (Nicki); nine grandchildren; special sister: Judy Barber; special aunt: Jenny Washburn and other aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; brothers-in-law: Ed Brown and Lanier Brown.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Porterfield, Rev. Pat Williams and Rev. Earl Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Pinch Gut Golf Club, Monday Lunch Bunch and North Augusta Cuda Players.
