Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, April 8, 2024, surrounded by family. Toni Marie Van Alstine, 82, was a loving wife of 61 years to William Lee “Bill” Van Alstine.
Toni, a second-generation Italian-American, was born in Wheatland, WY to Mike and Ida Caligiore. She grew up in Hartville, WY, graduating from Sunrise High School. Her childhood respite was her Aunt Josephine and Uncle Andy’s Meadowdale ranch. Toni attended the University of Wyoming where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and through the Newman Center, met William Lee Van Alstine, whom she married in 1963. After residing in several states throughout her husband’s graduate school and teaching career they settled in Aiken, SC in 1980 to join the Alleluia Community and in 1993 moved to Augusta, GA. In addition to being a loving mother, she worked as a primary educator, retiring from the Alleluia Community School in 1995.
Children are Joseph P. Van Alstine (Cindi), Rev. Mark N. Van Alstine, Dr. Andrew L. Van Alstine (Lyn), Clare A. Sullivan (Larry), and Yvonne M. Kling (David); 19 grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “Noni”: Anthony Van Alstine (Molly), Gianna Van Alstine, Isabella Van Alstine, Francesca Van Alstine, Therese Van Alstine, Justin Van Alstine, Abigail Wilby (Ryan), Juliana Van Alstine, Catherine Van Alstine, Amelia Van Alstine, Andrew W. Van Alstine, Geoffrey Sullivan (Olivia), Sean Sullivan, Colette Sullivan, Francis Sullivan, Nicholas Sullivan, Jamee Kling, Patrick Kling, Gregory Kling; and great-grandchildren Imelda Van Alstine and baby Wilby, due in July. She is predeceased by her parents, son Gregory Lee Van Alstine, and siblings Richard Caligiore and Shirley Jo Provance (Jim).
A vigil service will be Monday, April 15, 2024, 6:00 PM at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484, with a visitation following from 6:30-8:00 PM. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 16, 2024, 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Augusta, GA. Interment will follow in the Alleluia Community Cemetery, Dearing, GA.
