"Unfurl thy sails and let God steer you where He will"- Venerable St. Bede
Travis Gibson, 47, of Evans, died peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024, after a long crusade of health complications following a double lung transplant six years ago.
He and his twin brother, Andrew, were born in 1977 to Robert and Janet Gibson. The twin boys grew up with their sister Amanda in various places from Illinois to Hawaii, and finally landing in Marietta, GA. Travis spent as much time with his parents as time would allow, often going down the block to their house for lunch or weekly dinner. He will always be remembered as a family man, giving his all to everyone he loved: parents, siblings, wife, and mostly his children.
Travis met the love of his life, Emily, in 2006-2007 at Limelite Café, where they first became friends and eventually after many proposals, lifelong companions. They got married at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church on September 18, 2010, and began their journey as parents shortly thereafter.
Travis' children, Georgianna, Catherine, and James David were his pride and joy. Anyone who knows Travis knew that his children were his life. From enjoying fishing and boating on the lake, going to concerts, taking trips to the beach, working on his jeep, he was a family man through and through.
He volunteered frequently with Donate Life where he shared his transplant story after his double lung transplant. He wanted to encourage others who knew little about organ transplant and thus inspired so many. Because of his straightforward and positive attitude Travis was asked to mentor other people who were awaiting lung transplant.
He was always ready to help anyone in need. Whether it be finding a lost dog on a wedding day or driving to Atlanta to visit a sick friend, Travis was ever dependable. He worked diligently and tirelessly for 17 years with Progress (formerly Ipswitch), and was known for his hard work, dedication and blunt approach, and occasionally champion of darts or nerf wars.
He loved to be with friends regardless of what they were doing. Travis spent time throwing darts at Limelite, hosting game night, or just kicking up his feet, listening to some good country music, and drinking a beer or two. He was kept involved in his favorite activities by his friends as much as possible as his health worsened.
Travis will always be remembered for his upbeat personality and go with the flow attitude, and constant jokes. Even when times were uncertain, he was a thoughtful and caring husband, father, brother, son, and friend. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him, and he will doubtlessly be missed.
Travis is survived by his wife Emily, his children, Georgianna, Catherine, and James David. His mother and father, Robert and Janet Gibson and his siblings Amanda Gibson and Andrew Gibson.
