Martinez, GA – Mr. Vennis Jayson Ferrell, Sr. entered into rest at his residence on Thursday, December 05, 2013.
Mr. Ferrell was a native of River Junction/Chattahoochee, Florida. He served in the US Army from 1960 to1981 as a paratrooper for two tours in Vietnam, Okinawa, Germany and Korea. After retiring from the Army in 1981, he worked in civil service, retiring in 2005 while at Eisenhower Army Medical Center. He was recalled to active duty to Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991.
He was a member of Crossbridge Baptist Church and the Bompart Sunday School Class. He enjoyed woodcrafts, carving, politics, and fishing. His primary desire for the last several years was creating awareness for Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Mr. Ferrell is survived by his wife Brenda Starnes Ferrell, two sons Vennis Jayson Ferrell, Jr. (Vinnie) and Keith Allen Ferrell, Sr. (Michelle), their children AJ and Nicole of Harlem, GA, and a daughter Annette Herrera (Ricardo), their children Stephen, Ariana, Evelyn, Judith, and Logan all of Jacksonville, FL, two stepdaughters Cheryl Starnes Gamblin, her children Kenneth and Luke, and Alyson Starnes Goodfellow (Matthew) and their children Jackson and Sara, and sisters Eula Mae Segrest (George), Mavis Paramore (Jm) and Molly Ingram.
Pallbearers will be AJ Ferrell, Kenneth Gamblin, Luke Gamblin, Jackson Goodfellow, Pat O’Connor, Glenn Drum, and Paul Beck.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Bob Purvis and Rev. Dusty Wammack officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the University of Alabama/Birmingham IPF Program, 479 Boshell Diabetes Building, 1720 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35294-0012.
