Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, May 2, 2013, Mrs. Viola Anderson Wheatley Walton, 94.

Mrs. Walton was a native of Columbia County, GA. She enjoyed her job at Sibley Mill and retired as a weaver after 30 years of service. She was a faithful servant for the Lord and attended New Heights Baptist Church. Early in her life, she served as a Sunday School teacher at Abilene Baptist Church. Her hobbies included her flower gardens, cooking and sewing. She enjoyed flowers and plants of all kinds, cooking for her family and friends and sewing for her family. She made dresses, curtains, quilts, and all of her granddaughter’s wedding gowns. Viola loved to read and travel, which included visiting Germany, Japan, Hawaii, Italy, France and most of the United States. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas to celebrate the birth of Jesus and to gather with her family. Her generosity, love and hospitality to her family, church, and friends will not be forgotten.

Viola was the 7th of 9 children and was blessed with 5 children of her own. Family members include daughters: Elizabeth “Betty Jane” Tankersley (Luther “Buddy”) and Evelyn Ayers (David); son: Joe Wheatley, Jr.; daughter-in-law: Betty Brooks; 10 grandchildren: Lynette W. Kelleher (Tim), Vincent Ayers, Russell Tankersley (Sherri), Dwayne Wheatley (Donna), Glenda T. McIntosh (Michael), Robert Wheatley, Jr., Shannon A. Hall (Tim), Lynne W. Stafford (Donnie), Darryl Tankersley, Sr., Patricia A. Bensema (George); 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; brother: Hubert Anderson (Frances); and sister-in-laws: Florence Anderson and Marcella Anderson. She was preceded in death by her sons: Robert Wheatley, Sr. and Billy Gene Wheatley; grandchildren: Janet W. Blackstone and Ronald Tankersley; and great-grandchild: Casey Egbers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Lloyd Green officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Heights Baptist Church, 105 Camilla Avenue, Augusta, GA 30907.
