Augusta, GA – Mrs. Vivian Deanna Sims, surrounded by her adoring family, entered peacefully into rest on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Vivian was born in Baxley, Georgia in 1931 and graduated from Surrency High School where she was crowned Ms. Surrency in her senior year. She met Howard Sims in 1949 and was on the cusp of accepting a position as an intern in Washington, D.C. but, instead, accepted his proposal of marriage. She was his loving and devoted wife for 75 1/2 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta for 50 years. She was strong in her faith and generous with her resources. Vivian enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family, which she did enthusiastically and tirelessly. She also loved tending her beautiful garden and feeding the cheerful birds that flocked to it.
Vivian is survived by her husband, Howard, 96 (almost) and their three daughters: Susan Jurgensen (Art) of Aiken, SC; Sharron Deziel (Roland) of Augusta, and Marcelle Tudhope (Bryan) of Evans; four grandchildren: Michel McVicker-Weaver (Alyssa), Jared McVicker (Natasha), Christopher Michael (Rachel) and Joshua Tudhope; and eight great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn McGahee,
Hayden McVicker, Keira McVicker, Vivian Blackwell, James Blackwell, JC McVicker-Weaver, Madelyn Michael, and Rowan Michael; her sister, Gwenette Tammen and brothers Sherrell Sellers and Randall Sellers (Janice). She was predeceased by granddaughter Erinne Blackwell (Gary.)
The graveside service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Westover Memorial Park with The Rev. Jeff Pullium officiating. The service will begin at 2:00. Vivian has requested that attendees wear “happy” colors.
