Wade Barry Brantley
10/10/1949 - 07/19/2009

Martinez, GA – Mr. Wade Barry Brantley, 59, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 19, 2009. While an excellent all-around athlete throughout most of his life, he distinguished himself in football, earning All-State honors at Butler High School in Augusta, All-American honors at Troy State University in Troy, Alabama and eventually ended his playing career as a member of the New York Giants in the NFL. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, spending time with his family and he was a member of New Life Christian Church.

For the last 3 years, Wade had placed his own life completely on hold while giving his full measure to devote around the clock care for his elderly, disabled parents. Under his loving care, he greatly extended his Mother, Johnnie Smith Brantley’s, life until just 3 months ago, when no amount of loving care could keep her any longer here on this earth and she was called home to be with the Lord.

He was an amazing man who was devoted to his family, his friends, and God. He was a selfless and devoted son, and never hesitated to help anyone in need. He loved his daughters with all of his heart, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He left this earth to be with God far too soon for those he left behind, and he will be missed and remembered every day by those of us lucky enough to have known and loved him.

Family members include his daughters: Melissa and SPC Matthew Bargeron of Ft. Benning, GA, Megan and PFC Bobby Little of Evans, GA; granddaughter: Arwen Bargeron; grandson: Matthew Bargeron, Jr.; father: William T. Brantley; brother: David and Priscilla Brantley of Pine Mountain, GA; nephew: Matthew Brantley; niece: Rebecca Brantley; brother: Walter and Sheryl Brantley of Evans, niece: Jennifer and Rod Goins.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Terry Eubanks officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, July 22, 2009, 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484. A guestbook may be signed on our site www.thomaspoteet.com
