Wallace Widgeon
Clarks Hill, SC – Entered into rest on Friday, February 24, 2023, Mr. Wallace Howell Widgeon, 94, loving husband of the late Betty Widgeon. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Julia Allace Widgeon.
Born in Columbus, Georgia, Wallace served in the Army during WWII, returning home from Germany in 1947. His skills led him to apprentice and then master in the growing electrical industry. The Electrical Union (IBEW) kept him working up and down the east coast, sending him to New York, Norfolk, Miami and Augusta. He worked on many key electrical projects in and around Augusta, including: Clark Hill Dam (1952); the Signal Corp Tower at Fort Gordon; the newer University Hospital; Plant Vogtle and the Savannah River Site. He started his own successful company HI-VOLT in the 1960’s testing high voltage wiring. Additionally, he was a 70-year, legendary member of IBEW Local #1579 in Augusta. He had many interests including owning a shrimp boat and shrimp business, deep sea fishing, flying his own planes, real estate, philanthropy, and working the acreage on his properties.
Family members include his daughters: Patricia S. Parker (Gene), Lynda Diane Gribek (Ken), and Nancy Nora Strauss (Rege). Grandchildren: Amy Crawford, Thomas Crawford, Crystal Dickerson, Natalie Wiggins, R.J. Strauss, Martin Strauss, and Chace Strauss. Eleven great grandchildren: Amy’s son, Austin Jacob; Tom’s girls, Sarah, Becca, Cameron, and Lindsey; Crystal’s son, Vin; Natalie’s girls, Moya and Sophie; Jason’s son, Brendan; Melissa’s two, Sophia and Max.
There are four nieces: Susan, Lori, Tina, and Tracy. Two nephews: Bruce and Jody. Most of his nieces and nephews claimed their Uncle Wallace as a second dad.
A memorial service will be held March 25, 2023, 1:00 pm at Sweetwater Baptist Church, North Augusta with Dr. Paul Noe officiating.
