Martinez, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, August 1, 2015, Walter Gene Subel, 79, husband of Patricia Hodges.
Mr. Subel was a native of Summerdale, AL, but had lived in Martinez since 1984. As the last living member of his family he was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Carlie Horton Subel, three brothers, and one sister. He served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years. Mr. Subel worked as a welder for Shaw Fabrication and was a member of Local #421 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters in Greenville, SC. He loved the Braves, gardening, and working puzzles.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include daughter: Iris Subel Davis and husband Herb of McDonough, GA; step-son: Danny Hodges (Angie) of Augusta and step-daughters: Catherine Worley, the wife of the late David Worley of Augusta; Deana Hall, the wife of the late Callie Hall of Augusta; Debbie Hodges Baird of Greenville, SC; and Joann Hodges, wife of the late William Hodges; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and 15 nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Monday, August 3, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at
