Augusta, GA – First Sergeant (Retired) Wilbur David Driver, 63, entered into rest Sunday, March 27, 2011. He was the son of the late Wilbur J. Driver and Mildred McCreary Driver.
David Driver, a native of Aiken, SC, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968, served one tour in Vietnam and retired from active service in 1988. His awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin) with two Overseas Bars, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Air Assault Badge. David was a loving father, avid golfer, but more than anything else he was a devout Christian.
Family members include his sons: Major William (Dave) Driver and wife Rachel, J. Christopher Driver and wife Katie; grandchildren: Reagan, Jackson, Ethan, Sarah; sisters: Barbara Driver Brandon, Beverly Driver Ratliff; former wife and caregiver Jamie Wise Driver and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Leslie Holmes officiating. A Graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethany Cemetery, Aiken, SC.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA 30909.
