William “Bill” A. Price

William (Bill) Anthony Price, 72, died peacefully at home from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis on August 15, 2010 with his wife Barbara tenderly by his side. Bill was extremely happy that he and Barbara had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a week earlier with all his family and dear friends present for the momentous occasion.

Born February 25, 1938 in Augusta, Georgia to John Patrick and Lillian Morgan Price, Bill was a lifelong resident of Augusta. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, Boys Catholic High School and Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL where he lettered in golf all four years and was a member of Phi Omega Fraternity, Scabbard and Blades and ROTC. He earned his B.S.C. degree in Business Management, Finance and Commerce from Spring Hill College in 1959. Following college, he was also commissioned a Finance officer in the US Army and attained the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged from the reserves in 1970.

Returning to Augusta with his new bride whom he wed in Mobile on August 6, 1960, he began his 51 year professional career in Real Estate. Starting with the John B. Murray Real Estate Company in 1959, he became General Sales Manager of Bolton-Wakeley Realty Company in 1969, and was appointed Sales Manager of Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial Division in 1971. He was named Vice President of the Commercial Investment division in 1979 and was still working at Blanchard & Calhoun at the time of his death. A past Director, Vice President and President of the Augusta Board of Realtors, he was honored with the ‘Realtor of the Year’ award in 1969 and the H.Gould Barrett Award in 1971. During this same time (1969-1972), he was also a Director with the Georgia Association of Realtors and a member of their Professional Standards committee. A lifetime member of the Greater Augusta Board of Realtors, the Million Dollar Club and the Masters Club, Bill was consulted for his expertise by many national, regional and local clients and realtors.

A man of staunch faith and principle, Bill was also a member of many fraternal and civic organizations: Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus (4th Degree Knight)- Patrick Walsh Council #677, Augusta Elks Lodge #205 BPOE, Forest Hills Lions Club, Irish American Heritage Society, Augusta Country Club and the Augusta Golf Association. He was exceptionally proud of his induction into Spring Hill College’s Athletic Hall of Fame for golf in 2005.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Bliss Price, Augusta , daughters, Cindy Anfindsen (Stacey) of Apex, NC, Christel Hammond (Lawrence) of Evans, GA, son, Bill Price Jr. (Suzanne) of Roswell, GA, six grandchildren, Shannon and Severin Anfindsen, Caroline and Trey Hammond, Jason and Nicole Price, brother, John “Jack” P. Price Jr., (Marcia) of Gainesville, GA and many nieces, nephews-in law, cousins and dear friends . He is pre-deceased by a daughter, Shannon Elizabeth Price. Bill (Bubba and beloved Poppy) will be fondly remembered for his warm generosity, kindness, loyalty and unwavering strength.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Pulmonary and Cardiology Rehabilitation Clinic at University Hospital and Fredda Dear of Trinity Hospice.

A vigil and rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17th at Thomas Poteet and Son and the family will receive friends from 6:30 pm - 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 18th at Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Rev. Edward Frank celebrant. Burial will be following at Westover Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Vic Mills, Mark Senn, Lee Neel, Charles Brigham, Tommy Blanchard, John Woodbury; honorary pallbearers will be John Green, John Fleming, R.J. Robbins, Pam Baldwin, the Irish American Heritage Society, Augusta Golf Association and the Knights of Columbus Patrick Walsh Council, Assembly 174.
