William A. Dodgen, Sr.

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, January 28, 2010 at his residence, Mr. William A. Dodgen, Sr., 83, husband of the late Carolyn Holton Dodgen.
Mr. Dodgen was a native and life long resident of Augusta. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. He enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II as a gunner on the U.S.S. Floyd Gibson. Following WW II he began a career with Georgia Power and retired after 42 years. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where he served as youth director for many years and was Scout Master of Troop # 3. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved his family and enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
Family members include; daughters, Susan Dodgen Widener of Hephzibah, Karen Dodgen Melton. (Gary) of Blythe; sons: William A. Dodgen Jr. (Patricia) of Augusta, Jack A. Dodgen (Tina) of Lincolnton, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Dodgen was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Dodgen and Bernice Martin, his grandson Gary Jason Melton and two brothers Jack & George Dodgen.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 1, 2010 at 2:00 P. M. at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Birchall officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.
