Mr. William (Bill) Ross Doggette
“The Candy Man”
Augusta, GA – Mr. William (Bill) Ross Doggette, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bill loved his country and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Georgia Pacific as a Boiler Engineer. He then worked for 10 years as a consultant for SCS out of Chattanooga, TN. Bill was a member of The Hill Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years. He was affectionately known by his church friends as “The Candy Man” who gave out candy on Sundays to all the children in church. He was an avid gardener and loved being in the yard. He fed all the critters that lived there.
Bill was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Doyle Jones, and two brothers: Frank Holly and George Doggette. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth Doggette; sister, Patricia Shackelford; sons: K.C. Jones (Karen), Mike Doggette, Sr. (LaDonna), Rusty Doggette (Judy); daughters: Pam Newsome (William), Sandy Taylor (Gregg); grandchildren: Brandon Jones, Billy Jones, Heather Gill, Mike Doggette, Jr., Kansas Doggette, Nick Doggette, David Doggette, Lee Treadway, Brandy Vanover, Patricia Doggette, Bryson Taylor, Victoria Doggette; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to say a special “Thank you” to his neighbors, church members, and his caregivers from ResCare and Hospice.
The funeral will be Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at The Hill Baptist Church, 2165 Kings Way with Dr. Kenneth Word and Dr. Don Berry officiating.
Visitation and viewing will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
