William Theodore Gary, III
Augusta, GA – William Theodore Gary III, passed on Sunday, January 28, 2018 after a brief illness.
He was predeceased by his father: William Theodore Gary, Jr.; his mother: Irene von Kamp Gary; his brother: Albert von Kamp Gary: and his sister: Maude Gary Doris. Survivors include his wife: Judith McLaughlin Gary; and their children: William Theodore Gary, IV (Wendi), Katherine Gary Hotchkiss (Charles), and Judith Gary Taylor (Donald); grandchildren, include William Gary Salters (Courtney), Judith Gary Rader, Frank Salters Gary, and Katherine Salters Bodkin (Hobart) and their child; Calhoun Graves Bodkin. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews with a special friendship with Albert von Kamp Gary, III. The family has a world of appreciation and gratitude for Mr. Robert Lollar and his family.
Mr. Gary was born in 1931 in Augusta, and graduated from Boys Catholic High and The Georgia institute of Technology. He served in The Marine Corps for two years during the Korean War. His business career includes President of Gary Concrete Products, President of the American Concrete Pipe Association, President of The American Prestressed Association, Board Director of Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, and Chairman of The Board of Directors of SunTrust Bank and Trust. Mr. Gary was a member of The Church of The Most Holy Trinity in Augusta and St Jude’s Catholic Church in Sapphire, NC. He was founding member of Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, NC of which he was president for many years and The Heritage Club in Augusta, GA. He was a member of The Augusta Assembly and The Augusta National Golf Club. He was past President of the Augusta Country Club. Bill Gary was a man with deep passion for his many interests and endeavors. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a funeral mass at 12:15 P.M., Friday, February 2, 2018 at The Church of the Most Holy Trinity with Fr. Brett Brannen celebrant. A reception for friends and family will follow graveside at Summerville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, if so desired.
