Martinez, GA – William Helwig, 83, entered into rest Sunday, March 6, 2011, joining his beloved wife of 59 years, Marilyn.
Mr. Helwig was a native of Brooklyn, NY and resided in Martinez for the past 35 years. He was a retired Director of Maintenance Engineering for the Civil Service at Fort Gordon. Mr. Helwig served in the U. S. Army in WW2 and Korea for 10 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Helwig loved fishing, camping, traveling and his dog Gretchen.
Family members include, daughter, Kathy A. Young (Jimmy) of Hephzibah, sons, Raymond W. Helwig (Missy) of Martinez, Wayne J. Helwig (Debra) of Statesboro, GA, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, brother, Ronald Helwig of Mississippi, sister, Bernice Helwig of Memphis, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Bert Daniel officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at 6:00 P.M. and after the service until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
