William G. Harris, Jr. entered into rest on Friday, October 13, 2023.
William Garland Harris, Jr. “Billy” was born at the Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, on February 15, 1944, while his father was serving his country in the United States Navy in World War II.
Billy attended Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. Mr. Harris attended Georgia Military College and Georgia Southern University. He was the owner and operator of Harris Mechanical Company, and a member of Local Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 150.He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Fleming Lodge #718 and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry.
He served his country in the U. S. Army Reserves Medical Unit, which was activated during the Vietnam War in 1968.
Mr. Harris is survived by his loving partner of 25 years, Martha S. Hawkins; a son, William Garland Harris, III (Amelia); a daughter, Leigh Taylor Reagan (Matt); a brother, Michael Johanna Harris (Kathren); a granddaughter, Parker Ann Harris; an aunt Billie Lever Key; and many loving cousins.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, John Jacob Harris; his mother, Evelyn Lever Harris; and his father; William Garland Harris, Sr.
Billy will be remembered for his beautiful blue eyes, ready smile, and wonderful personality. He will be dearly missed by those who love him. He loved flowers, animals, and especially his dogs.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the people of Madison Heights Memory Care and also the staff of MSA Hospice. These ladies and gentlemen took kind and loving care of Billy as if he was their own family member and our hearts were touched by their care.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, Georgia 30907.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Reverend Eric Biddy officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Park. Members of Fleming Lodge #718 will be honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901.
