William L. Maxwell

SFC William Maxwell, U.S. Army (Ret.)

Augusta, GA – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of SFC William Lester Maxwell, U.S. Army (Ret.). He departed this life on Friday, March 22, 2024. Bill was born on January 10, 1933 to the late William and Clora Maxwell in North West  Missouri.  

Bill served in the U.S. Army for 23 years before retiring. He then worked for the Department of Corrections and retired in 1996 and later worked for Bi-Lo bagging groceries. Open heart surgery convinced him to retire for good. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 205.

Family members include his daughter: Vicki and sons: Perry and Phillip and their families. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years Ann Maxwell and two sons Dennis and Billy.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Alan Faulkner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers Bill asked for donations to be made to the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 15^th Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
