Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday evening, April 14, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital, Mr. William Thomas (Bill) Kelley, Sr., 88, husband of Jeanette Helms Kelley.
Bill was born in Frostproof, FL and grew up in Lithonia, GA. During World War II, First Sgt. William Kelley won several medals serving in the Pacific Campaign, eventually ending up in Japan. Bill lived most of his life in Augusta, GA, working as district manager for Continental Gin Co., for over 50 years. He was a faithful member of Warren Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Bill will be remembered as a faithful Christian; loving husband, father, and grandfather; a loyal friend; and a proud Veteran.
Family members in addition to his wife include his three children: Cheryl Kelley Andrews (Frank), William Thomas Kelley, Jr. (Sandy), Leslie Kelley Polatty (Mills); eight grandchildren: Richie Andrews (Julie), Holly Andrews Blanton (Daniel), Ryan Andrews, Kathryn Kelley, Matt Kelley, Mike Kelley, Anna Kelley Polatty, Caroline Polatty; and two great-grandchildren: Kate Andrews and Meg Andrews.
A military graveside service will be held Monday, April 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Bret Legg officiating. Pallbearers will be Richie Andrews, Ryan Andrews, Matt Kelley, Mike Kelley, Dennis Lancaster, Rex Robertson, and Norman Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the St. John’s Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 or to the Georgia War Veterans Home, 1101 15th St., Augusta, GA 30901.
