AUGUSTA, GA. – Entered into rest Sunday, October 11, 2009, at the VA Medical Center, Mr. William C. “Bill” Voelker, 75, husband of Martha Newsome Martin.

Mr. Voelker was a native of Clymer, PA but lived in Augusta for the past 47 years. Mr. Voelker served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. During his military career, he served 3 tours in Vietnam and was a member of the “Old Guard” at Arlington National Cemetery. He retired as a Master Sergeant. After retirement, he worked for 30 years as a specialist in home repairs.

Family members in addition to his wife include sons: John Voelker and wife Julie of Evans, Bobby Voelker and Annette Roberts of Amelia Island, FL, Steve Martin and wife Julia of Charleston, SC, the late Michael Martin and daughter-in-law Milagro Pereira; daughter: Pat Harris and husband Gerold of Hephzibah; grandchildren: Jessica, Amanda, Sierra, Kam, Dan, Martha Michelle, Melissa, Marla, Ian and Ryan; sister: Marlene Backstrom of Tulsa, OK; and brother: David Voelker of Tulsa, OK.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Don Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with full Military Honors. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Slavens, Phil Withers, and Perry Smith.
