Augusta, GA – God called his angel, Willie Kennedy-Scott, home on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. She was 84 years old. She was born in Augusta, Georgia. She was one of 10 children born to the late William E. and Freida Mae Lewis.
Ms. Scott retired after 30 years of service with the Richmond County Board of Elections. She was employee of the year in 1982. She was a dedicated employee that served her county proudly. She was the owner of Augusta Collection Agency, Inc. for 42 years.
After retirement, she moved to Augusta Gardens which she dearly loved and had many friends. The most enjoyment she had in life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff and friends at Augusta Gardens for all of their love and support during her 6 years there. Also many, many thanks to Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care. She was a member of Fleming Baptist Church and the family wishes to thank the church for their many visits and acts of kindness.
She was the loving and devoted mother of 3 children. She is survived by her daughters: Susan K. Childers (Gene, Sr.) and Vickie K. Shipman (Darrel). She had 9 grandchildren: Gene D. Childers, Jr. (Merry), Christopher B. Childers (Tara), Allison Rebecca Childers, J.D. Shipman,II, Amanda S. Arditi (Tony), V. Scott Shipman, Shannon Starrenburg (Duane), W. Shaun Kennedy (Jordan) and Stacie Washington (Nick); 9 great grandchildren: Brandi, Bryce, Hannah, Trunx, Dylan, Avery, Zyheem, Asher and Grayson. She is also survived by one sister, Miriam Sterling (Don). She was preceded in death by her beloved son: Wesley Russell Kennedy and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 P.M.in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Patrick Latta officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
