SFC Willis Clifton, Jr. (Ret ARMY)
Martinez, GA – Entered into rest Monday, August 5, 2013, SFC Willis Houston Clifton, Jr., 75, loving husband of 52 years to Mary Frances Clifton.
SFC Willis Houston Clifton, Jr. was born May 27, 1938 in Chambers County, Alabama. He was the son of the late W.H. Clifton, Sr. and Ola Sue Clifton of Phenix City, Alabama.
He loved Jesus, his family, and his country. He retired after more than 20 years of service in the United States Army and he loved his military life. He was most proud to serve as Senior Enlisted Aide for Major General John Tillson, III, Colonel Joe Sanders, Major General Harley L. Moore, Jr., and Major General Richard Meyers all while stationed at Fort Gordon. He also served as aide to Major General Robert McAllister at Fort Monroe, Virginia.
He was a member of the former Bakerwoods Baptist Church and Riverside Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of DAV, 205 American Legion, and The Retired Enlisted Associations. He was past assistant South Regional Director of the Uniformed Services Disabled Retirees.
In addition to his loving wife he leaves behind his sons: David Scott Clifton and wife Latrice of Harlem, Robert Todd Clifton and wife Lynn of Lincolnton; four loving grandchildren: Rose, Paul, Grace, Lauren; and brother-in-law: Steve Jackson and a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Luther Owen Clifton and sister: Betty Elizabeth Tamor. The family would like to thank the staff at Doctors Hospital ICU for their compassion and prayers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Michael Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
