Augusta, GA – Mrs. Winefred B. Matheny (Winnie) entered into rest Sunday, January 12, 2014.

Winnie was born in Atlanta, GA in 1923. She was raised and educated in Orlando, FL; then established residence in Augusta working as a bookkeeper. She was married to her late beloved husband, Dan Matheny, for 65 years. After six years working as a bookkeeper, she retired to start a family.

She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and the Anna Bannister Sunday School Class, where she served as past Secretary/Treasurer and Outreach Leader. She loved flowers and working in her yard and was a long time active member of her garden club.

Family members include two children: Thomas Martin Matheny, and Linda Matheny King; brother: Victor Harold Baker of Augusta; sister: Jane Bohler of Florida; two grandchildren: Courtney L. Teston, Kirby D. Adams; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Greg DeLoach and Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Anna Bannister Sunday School Class. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Johnson and all the doctors, nurses, and staff at University Hospital who were all so compassionate in their care for Winnie.
