Martinez, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Trinity Hospital of Augusta, Mr. Winton A. Smith, 96, husband of Ruth L. Smith.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of the Augusta area. He owned and operated Smith Shoe Repair located in Daniel Village for numerous years. He was a former deacon at Southgate Baptist and a member of the --- Beagles Club. He was a loving husband and a caring stepfather.
Family members in addition to his wife include his stepchildren: Lamar R. Hadden of Evans, James B. Hadden of Warrenton, GA, Dorothy R. Coghlan of Evans; step grandchildren: Jamey B. Hadden, Chad T. Coghlan, Jeremy S. Coghlan, Allyson E. Coghlan and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his first wife Muriel Smith.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Leonard Chavis and Rev. Ed. Chavis officiating. Pallbearers will be Wayne Smith, Lamar R. Hadden, James, B. Hadden, Chad T. Coghlan, Jeremy S. Coghlan, Doyle Smith and Billy Lariscey. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
