Mrs. Yvonne Hoyal Hollingsworth, beloved wife of the late Mr. William Edwin Hollingsworth, Jr., passed away on March 26, 2024, at the age of 87.
Yvonne was born on January 22, 1937, in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oliphant Hoyal (Avalene Crews). She grew up in Macon, Georgia, graduated from Lanier High School, and attended Mercer University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. It was in Macon where she met her future husband, Bill, while he was a student at Mercer University. She often said that it was love at first sight and told her father after their first date that he was “the one”. A few years later they married and settled in Augusta.
A devoted wife and mother, Yvonne also volunteered in the Augusta community in her earlier years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Wood Valley Garden Club, the Junior League, The Bridge Club and the Augusta Country Club. She was passionate about gardening and looked forward to planting for every changing season. Her favorite thing was spending time in Saint Simons with her husband and family. Many people have said that Yvonne was the exemplification of a true southern lady.
Yvonne is survived by her three children, Hollye Hollingsworth Conway (Brent) of Atlanta, Lee Hollingsworth Horton (Russell) of Augusta, and William Edwin Hollingsworth, III (Laura) of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Caroline Coleman Carter, Grace Elliott Sanders, Susanna Elliott Harbin, Frances Alden Elliott, Corey Abolghassem Fields, William Reza Abolghassem, William Edwin Hollingsworth, IV, and Ann Maxwell Hollingsworth; and nine great-grandchildren. Other family members include her sister, Myrna Hoyal Coleman, and her brother, the late Henry Landron Hoyal, sister-in-law, Diane Hoyal, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brandon Wilde and Regency Hospice for their love and care of their mother. They would also like to express their extreme gratitude to Glenne Simpson for her love, support and friendship she provided to our mother and family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way Augusta, GA with the Reverend Dr. Bunny Simon Williams officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 am in the Parish Hall prior to the service. Burial to follow at Westover Memorial Park. Suggested memorials may be made to Child Enrichment, 2300 Walden Drive, Augusta, GA 30904 or Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.
