Yvonne Spence Wiggins
While we mourn, she dances!
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Yvonne Spence Wiggins left this earth for her heavenly home on March 13, 2021.
While we deeply mourn her passing, we are overjoyed knowing she has gone to meet her Lord and Savior and is reunited with her husband, family and friends.
Yvonne was a “steel magnolia” in the best sense of the word and was a selfless, loving woman who touched many lives. Her priorities were serving Jesus Christ, her family, church and friends. She was always keenly interested and engaged in everything her family and friends did. We all had the benefit of her boundless love and charity.
Yvonne regularly attended services and the “Thankful” Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Augusta and in later years faithfully watched services on television.
She was no stranger to hard work, having worked to purchase school clothes and provide financial assistance to her mother, even saving enough to allow her mother to place a down payment on a home. Yvonne worked for the Department of Defense and later was Administrative Secretary at University Hospital for 21 years. She was Employee of the Year, President of the Credit Union and on the University Hospital Alumni Association.
Yvonne met the love of her life on a blind date when she was 18 years old. She and Carl Wiggins were married in 1945 and were blessed with a happy marriage until Carl’s death in 1995.
Yvonne was a joyous, happy person and leaves a legacy of values: education, hard work, commitment to relationships and faith in God. Her last advice: “Be sweet. Be Kind”. She is deeply missed by her son, Stephen and his wife, Judy; daughter Deborah Edenfield and her husband, Jimmy; daughter Martha Ann Brooks and her husband, Jerrold; grandchildren Benjamin Wiggins; Thomas Wiggins; Lauren Powers; Bradley Powers; and Henry Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Stephen Bradley Powers, II and Albert James Gilbert, III.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Just Like Family; Benton House of Augusta; Memory Care/The Orchard; and Hospice of Georgia. The love and care they gave our mother was immeasurable and we are profoundly grateful.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2021 at The First Baptist Church of Augusta Storey Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The wearing of masks is requested and social distancing will be observed. Private inurnment will follow at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Angel Fund at All God’s Creatures Veterinary Hospital and the Benevolent Fund at First Baptist Church of Augusta.
